Jayne Quam: Honey Calcite with Mosaic, Turtle
Quam
The level of detail in this carving is simply astonishing, each tiny tile meticulously placed to create a beautiful and intricate pattern. The colors chosen for the mosaic perfectly complemented the natural hue of the calcite, making the whole piece really pop. It was clear that Jayne put a lot of thought and care into her creation, and her talent for carving and design shone through in every curve and line of the turtle's shell. This piece took my breath away.
Turtle (Edo:wa): Turtle has always been esteemed because it carries its home on its back and goes with the flow of the river, not against it. In some mythologies, the first North Americans envisioned the continent as a turtle because it was surrounded by water. Turtle reminds us to respect Mother Earth.
